Med Tech is a family-owned EMS medical device manufacturer founded by EMS veteran Bo Renberg. As one of the trusted medical equipment companies in Chicago, we design, patent and produce the world's most sustainable, lightweight, and medically safe vacuum immobilization boards, vests, collars and splints engineered from five decades of frontline EMS experience and backed by a solid 10-year warranty.
Most immobilization equipment lacks proper individualization for body stabilization during transport. Outdated tools, sticks and bandages are frequently cause additional injury, while improperly fixed broken bones risk lasting nerve damage, longer recovery times and higher downstream costs.
As a dedicated EMS medical device manufacturer, we design exceptional self-selling products: the world's most sustainable, lightweight, environmentally friendly, medically safe emergency and rescue equipment. Our patented chamber system delivers reliable vacuum immobilization support even on inclines or in seated scenarios such as hip fractures.
Tailored for extreme winter and desert conditions, our equipment elevates patient outcomes with near-perfect immobilization during transport. That commitment shows up in outstanding customer satisfaction and in original 1989 units still in working condition today, a standard few medical equipment companies in Chicago can match.
Our journey began with MedTech Equipment Sweden — early products crafted in collaboration with Germa, the esteemed Swedish company producing pressure suits for the Swedish Air Force.
We expanded by testing the American market. Despite enticing offers from the U.S. company that owned Germa, we chose to embark on our independent entrepreneurial path.
A significant milestone — Medtech Sweden, Inc. was established as a U.S. company, opening the door to a generation of American EMS and federal customers.
We sold off our earlier, more basic product lines and relocated to Sweden to begin developing a groundbreaking new generation of vacuum products.
New patents approved. We returned to the United States and began in-house production of our revolutionary product line in Illinois — where our headquarters remain to this day.
In May 2023 we submitted a new patent application that promises to unlock additional product lines and access even larger markets.
Unveiling a new patent-pending product line engineered for streamlined trauma care — usable in MRI and X-ray, designed for hospitals, local care centers, ambulances and military.
Bo Renberg drew inspiration from a specific use-case in the Swedish military in 1967. After completing his service he became a firefighter in 1968, then pursued education as a specialist nurse in orthopedics. In 1970 he began his career in Emergency Medical Services.
Working in a quaint Swedish countryside town, Bo frequently transported wounded patients to a specialized hospital in Stockholm — and observed that patients often suffered additional injuries during transport, including nerve damage caused by sharp edges on improperly secured broken bones. The vacuum spine board began as his answer to that problem.
In the late 1980s Bo immigrated to the United States to study EMS technology, participating in knowledge and lobbying groups on both sides of the Atlantic. He helped shape new regulatory standards for Scandinavian EMS transport education — turning a two-week certification into a mandatory three-year nursing program.
Five engineering principles — refined from frontline EMS, codified in patents, and welded into every unit that leaves our workshop.
Innovative vacuum channels filled with custom-made "pellets" that regain their original shape after vacuum release. Perfect fit for safe transport and accurate imaging in X-ray and MRI. Lightweight, easy to apply, designed for winter and desert alike.
Every product comes backed by a 10-year warranty, with 24-hour internal vacuum testing prior to shipment.
Engineered to perform in both extreme freezing winters and harsh desert climates without compromise.
Unique high-tech welding joins Polyethylene and Polyester, meeting strict medical hygiene standards.
Decades-long reliability with precise material composition managed under strict quality control.
Med Tech is the sole supplier with the ability to weld polyethylene and polyester, a requirement for medical equipment due to hygienic considerations. High-tech welding ensures strong, secure, leak-free connections.
All products undergo a 24-hour testing process, only around two percent fail internal quality control. Vacuum function is guaranteed for 24 hours per occasion, and every product is backed by a "lifetime" 10-year warranty.
Original customers from 1989 still operate their units in excellent condition, the most sustainable kit you won't replace.
50 years of expertise in product development and production. Former Swedish firefighter, orthopedic specialist nurse, and EMS practitioner whose frontline observations launched the vacuum spine board.
34 years of experience specializing in regulatory requirements, business administration, tax and the operational fabric that keeps a family medical-device business compliant and shipping.
Extensive knowledge across every step of the production process — from welding and quality control through assembly and final 24-hour vacuum testing.
Deep production-floor expertise. Co-leads day-to-day manufacturing and ongoing improvements to the patented chamber and welding systems.

“Our original customers from as far back as 1989 still have their equipment in excellent, working condition today — proving the true durability and long-term lifespan of these innovative products.”
“Unlike competing splints that lack an internal channel system and wear out quickly, Med Tech Sweden's patented system offers near-perfect immobilization during transport under the most extreme conditions.”
“In tactical environments, gear failure is not an option. Med Tech Sweden's spine boards have survived deployment in the harshest terrains, proving their military-grade toughness and reliability.”
“Immobilizing patients at −20 °C on a steep mountain slope requires gear that remains flexible yet completely rigid under vacuum. These boards are the gold standard for our HEMS rescue crews.”
“Corrosive salt spray destroys standard emergency equipment in months. The marine-grade materials in Med Tech's splints have lasted years on our offshore drilling platforms and transport ships.”
“During mass-casualty incidents, decontamination speed is critical. The seamless, non-porous surface of these vacuum boards makes cleaning, sanitizing, and quick re-deployment incredibly fast.”
